Imo State College Of Education Ihitte Uboma Joins 4 Weeks Strike, Decribes Their Acting Provost Inexperience And Ineptitude

Imo state college of Education Ihitte Uboma, joins 4 weeks strike. Decried their acting provost inexperience and ineptitude

Imo State College Of Edu. Ihite Uboma

The college joins  strike on 14th of June, 2022, as declared in Asaba  COEASU NEC meeting on 10th of June, 2022.

The academic staff of colleges of Education in Nigeria is striking as a result of failure of FG to constitute its own Team and commence renegotiation of FGN- COEASU 2010 Agreement in spite of all entreaties of the union. Non- release of 15billion approved out of the #456,599,691,914.18 Billion Revitalization fund  recommended for both Federal and state colleges of Education contrary to repeated promises of the FG. Non- implementation of the consequential effects of the implementation of CONTISS 15 on Lower Cadre  ( a.k.a migration) since 2018.

Poor Funding  of colleges of Education and poor conditions cross stated owned colleges of Education. Federal Government's recalcitrant insistence on IPPIS against more reliable alternative of UTAS.

Peculiar to our college  is a situation where the acting provost is not  a qualified teacher and was not a lecturer. He does not  use NCCE CONDITIONS OF SERVICE as administrative documents for colleges of Education in Nigeria.

A worrisome situation is that since the inception of our college, the acting provost has been appointing DEANS OF VARIOUS SCHOOLS AND ISSUING THEM APPOINTMENT LETTERS  FOR 3 YEARS AGAINST NORMAL 2 YEARS. The HODs appointed were not given letters of appointment; they were orally appointed as HODS.

The acting provost plays GOD by appointing academic staff governing council representatives.

He has refused to accept the DEANS elected by the academic staff and the governing council representatives elected by the academic staff themselves. It is regretted that the acting provost of our college has no work history and cognit work experience.

A disturbing situation is that the acting provost has refused to convince the government on importance of accreditation to the college rather he is chasing affiliation. How can a college get affiliated without NCCE accreditation, what an aberration.

The sad part of the story is that the acting provost mismanaged the college Teftund and use it as a bargaining power to entice staff and others to do his bidding.

Government makes impress available every month but no unit or directorate of the college has a ever recieved impress. Even the DEANS and HODs have not received impress in the college to run their offices.

The college has not received facelift despite monthly impress from the state government and Teftund which comes to the college.

The acting provost inexperience and ineptitude have run the college backwards.

In view of the above, academic  staff of college beckons on the state Governor to remove the acting provost and come to the aid of the college to ensure that all the college courses are accredited. Removing the acting provost and accrediting all the college courses will place the college above equal.
